Mastering the Art of Unitized Curtainwall Systems at ӣҵ

At ӣҵ, we take pride in turning complex challenges into stunning results. One of our achievements, the Axiom Corporate Center in Las Vegas, showcases our team’s expertise in unitized curtainwall systems. This project, with its intricate design elements and bold architecture, highlights the precision, collaboration, and innovation that define ӣҵ in the glazing industry.

A Complex Vision, Perfectly Executed

The Axiom Corporate Center features an eye-catching combination of glass and steel façades, emphasizing curves, rounded corners, and a distinctive diagonal “swoosh” stretching across its surface. Such a dynamic aesthetic required more than just standard glazing solutions—it demanded a tailored approach meticulously engineered to bring the design to life.

According to Andy Phipps, Director of Marketing and Communications at Giroux, the project presented unique hurdles. “Canted elevations transitioning into radiused corners, splayed mullions, and a recessed feature created challenges that necessitated seamless integration and customization to meet both aesthetic and performance goals.”

To tackle these hurdles, ӣҵ utilized Arcadia Inc.’s unitized system as a foundation, making precise adjustments to ensure every element fit harmoniously within the design. This approach ensured not only structural integrity but also an architecturally bold look befitting of the Axiom Corporate Center.

Precision and Collaboration at Every Step

Successfully fabricating and installing a unitized curtainwall system requires rigorous attention to detail. At Giroux, we rely on a collaborative approach that harnesses the expertise of multiple departments, including project management, engineering, shop fabrication, and field installation.
David Diener, our Design and Estimating Manager, described this synergy, noting that “a team of specialists worked together to design and engineer the curtainwall, considering everything from performance standards and glass compatibility to customization options and sunshade attachments. Every step involved careful planning to meet the high demands of this project.”

This precision-driven approach doesn’t stop at the design table. ӣҵ employs advanced equipment and quality control measures to ensure each unit meets exact specifications. Chief Operating Officer Marty McKinley emphasized the importance of accuracy, stating, “Our fabrication team relies on CNC-controlled machining tools, overhead cranes, and specialized caulk pumps. These tools help us achieve precise dimensions, safe placement of lites, and flawless finishes. We conduct rigorous in-house testing to confirm that every unit is watertight before it leaves our facility.”

The Benefits of Unitized Systems

While projects like the Axiom Corporate Center require significant effort and time to execute, the advantages of unitized curtainwall systems are undeniable. Diener explained that these systems bring substantial benefits to clients, including faster installation times and enhanced architectural flexibility.

“These fully glazed units are designed for quick and efficient onsite installation, reducing drying time for the building,” he shared. “This process supports accelerated construction schedules compared to traditional stick-built systems.” Additionally, controlled factory production ensures higher quality façades and fewer trades on-site, simplifying coordination and reducing potential delays.

For the Axiom Corporate Center, these benefits — combined with Giroux’s commitment to excellence — ensured a smooth build while delivering an extraordinary architectural centerpiece for Las Vegas.

Setting the Standard in Glazing Innovation

At ӣҵ, every project is an opportunity to demonstrate our capabilities and passion for innovation. The Axiom Corporate Center showcases more than just our technical proficiency; it represents our dedication to bringing ambitious designs to life.

Congratulations to the entire Giroux team and our industry partners for their remarkable work on this project and for continuing to lead the way in the unitized field of glazing. Through precision, collaboration, and innovation, we’ve once again raised the standard for what’s possible in architectural glasswork.
